Born in Poland, she had lived in Hartford most of her life, moving to California six years ago. She was the co-owner and operator of the Charles Steak House Restaurant. She leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Eugenie and Robert Arthur of San Jose, CA; five grandchildren, Robert Todd Arthur, Pamela Charles Arthur, Dana Andrews, Steven Andrews, and Charles Andrews; and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sons, Walter, Ignatius, and Charles Andrezejczyk; and a granddaughter, Janice Golub. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 13, 9:15 a.m., from the South Green Memorial Home, 43 Wethersfield Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at SS Cyril Methodius Church, Hartford.

Burial will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Her family will receive friends Friday, 6-8 p.m., at the South Green Memorial Home. BARREN, Jean Jean Barren, died on Tuesday, (December 26, 2000) in Hartford. She was born on August 25, 1957 in Bridgeport.

Jean is survived by her son, Bill; and four grandchildren, Gage, Summer, Cosomo, and a newborn baby boy. She leaves behind many friends, including those at Peter's Retreat. We all hold her in the light. Born August 8, 1904 in Torrington, son of the late Albert M. and Bertha (Logan) Bassett. He had retired as the Bank President of the former Southington Savings and Loan. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was active in many civic and church organizations in the community. Mr.

Main is in charge of arrangements. BENSON, Roy W. Roy W. Benson, 68, of Coventry, formerly of Vernon, beloved husband of Sonja E. (Kristiansen) Benson, died Wednesday, (January 10, 2001) at St.

Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford. Born in New York City, May 9, 1932, he was a Veteran of the Korean War era, serving in the Army. Roy moved to Coventry in 1963 and resided in Vernon from 1978 until returning to Coventry in 1994. Prior to retiring, he was northeast regional manager for the Flexible Steel Lacing Company of Illinois. Roy was a longtime member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church of Manchester, the Vasa Order of America, Scandia Lodge a member of the Mason Lodge the Sphinx Temple Shrine, and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon Nutmeg Forest.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and David Torstenson of Coventry, and Lisa and Paul Rohner of Bristol; two grandchildren, John David Torstenson and Kari Leigh Torstenson; a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Joseph Sadlow of North Redding, MA and a niece and a nephew. She was the loving wife of Louis Bessoni and daughter of the late Joseph and Florence (Malinowski) Kaminsky. Mrs. Bessoni was born in New Britain and resided there until moving to Newington, and then Wethersfield.

She was a member of St. Ann Church. Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Robert L. Bessoni of New Britain; a daughter, Robin L. Williams and her husband, Scott of Windsor Locks; a sister, Trudy Woodard of New Britain; three grandchildren, Ashley, A Amber and Aaron Williams; and several nieces and nephews.

(Biggs) Canning, 94, formerly of Coolidge West Hartford, wife the late Robert Canning, died Saturday, (December 30, 2000) at the Salmon Brook Nursing Center. Born in Glastonbury on June 19, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Inez Estelle (Goodwin) Biggs.

Mildred was employed by Conn. Ins. Co. for 50 years, serving as secretary to several vice presidents. She was a former member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Hartford.

She is survived by a nephew, Edward C. Walden, Jr. of Middletown; two nieces, Beverly W. Merk of Portland and Marcia Allen of Plymouth, MA. She was predeceased by a sister, Annie B.

CURTIS, Olga Emma (Kanenberg) Olga Emma (Kanenberg) Curtis, 88, formerly of Rustic Terrace, Bristol, widow of Edmond L. Curtis, died Monday, (January 8, 2001) at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. She was born on September 15, 1912, in Bristol, a daughter of the late Herman and Emma (Bodamer) (Kanenberg) (Potz). A lifelong Bristol resident, she was a graduate of Bristol High School, Class of 1931.

She was employed as a Timekeeper for Ingraham and later, as a secretary for a medical doctor. After her marriage, she was a homemaker, staying at home, to raise her family. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Bristol, and a charter member of the Dorcas Society, of the church. In the 1950's, she played the violin, and was a member of the Bristol Civic Orchestra. She is survived by a son Richard Curtis, of Berlin, MA; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce C.

and Michael Taylor, of Hartford; four grandchildren, Michele and Matthew McMullen, David W. Taylor, Greta and Libby Curtis; also a great grandchild, Emma McMullen. Mrs. Curtis was predeceased by a brother, Rudolph H. Kanenberg.

DANIELS, Albert Albert Daniels departed this life on Sunday, (January 7, 2001), after a long illness. He was born October 29, 1936 in Dawson, GA. He was predeceased by both parents, Oscar Daniels and Lula Mae Jackson-Daniels; his' longtime companion, Sheila Copeland; and a son, Jerry Daniels. She was the daughter of Ida and Cornelius Watson. Mrs. Emanuel lived in Hartford for over 30 years where she had a career as a bookkeeper, working at Capitol Records, SageAllen and M. Swift Sons. She retired in 1989 from the Alcoholism Detoxification and Rehabilitation Center and moved to Wellington, FL in 1992.

Mrs. Emanuel was a member of St. Monica's Episcopal Church in Hartford and St. David In The Pines Episcopal Church in Wellington, FL. She was active her community and served as the last president of The Ladies Auxiliary of The West Indian American Social Club.

Mrs. Emanuel was a Charter Member and Past Matron of The Rose of Sharon Chapter of The Independent United Order of Mechanics. She is survived her daughter, Annette Carnegie; ste Anna and Elaine Emanuel; sister and brother-inlaw, Agnes and Lloyd MacBeth; aunt and uncle, Louise and Herbert Lawrence; nieces, Gwendolyn Lawrence, Muriel Farquharson, Denise Lovell, Venetta MacBeth; and a host of relatives and friends. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Rocky Hill. ETHERINGTON, Edwin D. Edwin D. Etherington of Jupiter Island, FL, died at his home on Monday (January 8, 2001). He was 76 years old.

Born Bayonne, NJ, Ted Etherington lived in Old Lyme, and Jupiter Island, FL, where he was a resident of 23 years. He graduated with distinction from Wesleyan University and Yale Law School. In 1962 he became president and chief executive officer of the American Stock Exchange. From 1966 to 1970 he was president of Wesleyan University in Middletown. He then served as chairman of both the Center for Voluntary Action in Washington, D.C.

and the National Advertising Review Board in New York City, NY. He was a director of several companies, including American Express, Automatic Data Processing, Southern New England Telephone, and the United States Trust Company of New York. Throughout his career, Ted Etherington's altruism found many outlets. He was particularly proud of the Lymes' Youth Service Bureau and the Hobe Sound Child Care Center and the communities they serve. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Katherine Colean Etherington; his son, Deac of Tucson, AZ, his son, Bob and granddaughter, Rose Lanier "Lanie" of Nashville, TN; and his brother, Donald Etherington of Washington.

He was a retired security guard from Pratt Whitney Aircraft, Middletown, a former guard at the CT State Prison, Wethersfield, Past Commander and Charter Member the Fowler-Dix-Park Post East life of member of the U.S. Marine Edison's Raiders, a life member of the U.S. Marine Raider 6th Marine Division, former member of the East Hampton Volunteer Fire Department, former Constable for the East Hampton Police Department, a member of the Marlborough American Legion Post 196 and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose 1631. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Edward J. Galvin and Frederick R.

HALL, Helen (Rauba) Helen (Rauba) Hall, 88, formerly of Cromwell Court in Old Saybrook, died after a long illness Tuesday, (January 9,2001) at the Old Saybrook Convalescent Home. Born in Dickson City, PA on March 27, 1912, one of five children of John and Mary Ann (Rzeznik) Rauba. She lived in Short Hills, NJ, New York City, married July 11, 1942 to Charles A. Hall Jr. in East Hampton; a son, John Gilson Hall born there May 31, 1948.

Moved to Middletown then to Old Saybrook in 1960. Wife, mother, homemaker, lived in Old Saybrook for the rest of her life. She was predeceased by her Charles in 1993. Burial at Mountain View Cemetery in Bloomfield. HAUPT, Laurie J. Laurie J. Haupt, 41, of Worthington Ridge Berlin, died Friday (January 5, 2001) at CT Hospice in Branford, after a short courageous struggle with cancer. She was born in Stamford on March 29, 1959.

She was the daughter of the late John H. and Marquerite C. (Mathisen) Haupt. Laurie worked in the inventory department in Shaw's Supermarket in Newington. She is survived by two daughters, Stephanie A.

Holmes and Necole B. Holmes, both of Berlin; a brother, John Michael Haupt and his wife Rhonda of Guilford; a sister, Lisa Haupt of Clinton; and a niece and a nephew, several aunts, uncles and cousins. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Lois Holmes of Berlin; and an aunt, Judith Laing of Shelton. Memorial services will be held Sunday, January 14, 2 p.m. at The Swan Funeral Home, 80 East Main Street, Clinton.

HEAGNEY, John Thomas Sr. John Thomas "Jack" Heagney, 75, of Simsbury, beloved hus-1 band and best friend of 53 years of Jean (Gilhuly) Heagney died Wednesday, (January 10, 2001) at home.

He was born March 1, 1925 in San Francisco, CA, son of the late Walter and Mary (Kearns) Heagney of San Francisco, CA. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John Jr. and GayIan Heagney; his daughter, Diane M. Brittell; his son and daughter-in-law, State Representative Robert W. and Barbara H.

Heagney; his son and daughter-in-law, Matthew J. and Margaret M. Heagney; eight grandchildren, Trevor R. Brittell, John T. Heagney, III, Sean R.

Brittell, R. Walker Heagney, Kathleen M. Heagney, Michael M. Heagney, Addison J. Heagney and Emmet A.

Heagney, all of Simsbury; sisters-in-law, Sister Jean M. Gilhuly of Monterey, CA, Marguerite Heagney of San Francisco, CA' and Frances Heagney of South San Francisco, CA; and several nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School of San Francisco and attended the Golden Gate Business College of San Francisco. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the South Pacific from 1943-1946.

Mr. Heagney was employed with The Hartford insurance Group for 40 years, retiring as a vice president in 1986. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Simsbury, the Farmington Country Club and The Hartford's Retired Executives Club. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 13, at St. Mary's Church, 946 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury at 10 a.m., followed by burial in the Simsbury Cemetery. Luu T. Hoang, widow of Vinh T. Phan, died Monday, (January 8, 2001) in Hartford Hospital. Born in Bacninh, Vietnam, she lived in the Glastonbury area for many years. She was a member of the Buddhist Association of Connecticut.

Luu T. Hoang had five sons, Hoan T. Phan, deceased, Thien T. Phan of Unionville, Chinh T. Phan of Washington D.C., Sinh T.

Phan of Topeka, KS, Vinh T. Phan of Windsor; and three daughters, Hien T. Phan of South Windsor, Minh T. Phan of Saigon, Vietnam and Phung his Phan of Glastonbury. She also had grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday, Jan. 13, with a Buddhist Prayer Service from 9-10 a.m. at The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Glastonbury, followed by a procession to Green Cemetery, Glastonbury, for burial. Buddhist Prayer Services will take place TODAY and Friday, 6-7 p.m. followed by calling hours, 7-9 p.m.

MALDONADO, Alex William Alex William Maldonado, 7, of East Hartford departed this life to join his father William Maldonado and grandmother, Nancy Beley on Tuesday (January 9, 2001). leaves his mother, Laurie Beley; a brother, Joshua Quintana; a sister, Amber Quintana; his pepere, Peter Beley; and his Abuila Carmen Marquez. Alex also leaves behind very special aunts, uncles, cousins, nurses, doctors, his teacher, and Sabre the dog. Alex was a student at Hockanum School and an excellent baseball player for the East Hartford Challengers. Alex will be deeply missed but his smile will out shine the sun.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 12, 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Hartford. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Hartford. Calling hours are TODAY, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
